Camera, Photos and Video,  Syncing,  Basics
Just before Christmas, I bought an iPhone 5 to replace an iPhone 3g. Intending to copy over my contacts to the new phone, I made the mistake of restoring the previous 3G backup on the iphone 5. When I restored, it erased all the photos and video I had taken the first two weeks I had the new phone. (Oddly enough, the apps I had downloaded survived). Is there any way of recovering this media?

According to the principle of data recovery, all the deleted or lost data can be recovered only if they are not overwritten. If you ensure your data are not covered by new data, you can try Macgo Mac iPhone Data Recovery. And I'd like to tell you that it is totally free as Macgo is on Christmas promotion: http://www.macblurayplayer.com/macgo-christmas-promotion.htm

iPubsoft iPad iPhone iPod Data Recovery provided me with two ways to restore my lost data from my iPhone 5s. One is directly retrieve deleted files from iPhone, the other is to restore data from iTunes backup.
How to recover lost data from iphone 5 on Mac ?

You need to make sure from now on to transfer them to a photo program on your computer also, and do it regularly.

If you did not have it in your backup, and you did not have it backed up to a photo program like iphoto on a mac or something of the like, then, No , they are gone for good. Sorry
