Original iPhone
Greetings, everyone.
My iPhone (2G, iOS 3.1.3) won't charge anymore. Plugging it to the wall socket charger doesn't charge it, nor does plugging it via USB to my laptop PC (USB Not Recognized).
Before this unfortunate situation, my phone has been experiencing the dreaded "This accessory is not made to work with the iPhone" error, which left the phone popping up an error message repeatedly and disabling its internal speakers. However, during the course of the error the phone still charges although it needs to be positioned properly. This prompted me to think that it might be a faulty USB cable, but upon buying a new one and trying it out, the problem remains the same.
Thinking that a dirty dock connector is causing the problem, I cleaned the said part with a toothbrush. No luck.
There are a few things that I noticed, though.
1) When my phone is completely drained, it charges briefly until it auto-starts. When the phone is on, charging does not work.
2) When the phone is on, and I plug the 30-pin end of the cable to the phone, the phone's LCD brightness raises just a little bit for half or a quarter of a second, then returns to normal (my LCD brightness is down to 35% or so due to low power).
Is there any workaround for this problem? Replacing the unit is out of the question because in our place, Apple Stores are quite hard to find.
